Michael Anderson was born in California and grew up in Texas and Nebraska. After moving to Arizona in 1964, he studied Fine Art at Phoenix College and Arizona State University, before becoming a professional sculptor in the early ’70s. Michael has created work in different media but is most recognized for his gracefully sweeping works in steel. His works are in public and private collections across the United States and in foreign countries as diverse as Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Australia and Zaire.
Michael Anderson works primarily in steel. Despite the weight of the material his work maintains a strong and notable fluidity.
His work is unique and industrial yet delicate and graceful. He turns steel into gravity defying pieces. Stunning forms of illusionary ribbons of steel. He is a master of his craft.
His process begins with a model, usually only a foot or two high. If he is satisfied with the model he sets out to create the work at its intended size. The finished pieces are usually between 6' and 30' on their longest side.
